History and Philosophy

Our Founding and History

In 2007, DeShawn Carter and David Hohimer assembled the framework for a football and cheer program in West Seattle. After a lot of hard work and generous donations from the community, West Seattle Junior Football & Cheer launched its inaugural season in 2008.

Our Mission

To provide fitness and positive life skills and to promote high achievement in school and the community for youth ages 6 to 14. We strive to provide affordable programming to many children in our community who cannot afford to experience football and cheer with their peers.

Our Franchise

West Seattle Junior Football & Cheer consists of seven age-and weight-targeted football teams and one cheer team. We are 100 percent volunteer based, and our franchise holds several championships. We encourage our players and cheerleaders to conduct themselves with honor and dignity on and off the field.

The West Seattle Junior Football & Cheer franchise is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation).

Our League

We are a proud member of the Northwest Junior Football League (NJFL). The league is a nonprofit organization providing youth football and cheer opportunities across King and Snohomish counties.

The NJFL's mission is to provide a positive introduction to youth football and cheer and to increase participation, experience, knowledge, safety, and skills for all players and participants. NJFL also participates in Heads Up Football, a comprehensive approach to a better and safer game. We have professional athletic trainers and PNFOA referees at all games. Taken together, this increases participation and the overall safety of the game.
